Analisis Sifat-sifat Fisik Keramik Berbahan Tambahan Abu Ampas Tebu Dan Abu Sekam Padi

Abstract


 

ABSTRAK

Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang analisis sifat-sifat fisik keramik berbahan dasar tanah liat dengan bahan tambahan abu ampas tebu (AAT) dan abu sekam padi (ASP). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi komposisi bahan tambahan AAT dan ASP terhadap sifat-sifat fisik dari densitas, susut bakar, daya serap air dan kuat tekan pada keramik. Pembuatan sampel keramik menggunakan bahan campuran tanah liat, ASP, AAT dengan komposisi yang bervariasi yaitu A (70,0,30), B (70,10,20), C (70,15,15), D (70,20,10) dan E (70,30,0), kemudian dibentuk dalam cetakan berukuran π cm2x4 cm lalu dipadatkan menggunakan alat Press hidrolik hingga tekanan 5 MPa. Sampel tersebut selanjutnya dipanaskan dalam tanur pada suhu 600 oC selama 2 jam. Pengukuran dimensi, massa dan gaya tekan pada sampel masing-masing menggunakan jangka sorong, neraca analitik dan alat press TNM tipe TN20MD. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan kuat tekan menunjukkan bahwa sampel  berkualitas baik, di mana memenuhi standar (SNI,1996) yaitu B,C,D dan E. Diantara ke-4 sampel tersebut, sampel E (70,30,0) merupakan sampel keramik yang memenuhi kualitas terbaik karena memiliki kuat tekan dan densitas tertinggi, susut bakar dan daya serap terendah yaitu berturut-turut 17,77 MPa, 1,60 gr/cm3, 4,10% dan 25%. Dari hasil perhitungan yang diperoleh tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa penambahan ASP yang berlebihan dapat menurunkan kualitas keramik, sebaliknya penambahan AAT yang lebih banyak dapat meningkatkan kualitas keramik.

ABSTRACT

 

Analysis of the physical properties of ceramic based on the main constituent of clay and the additional constituents of bagasse ash (BA) and rice husk ash (RHA) has ben conducted. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of various compositions from BA and RHA additional constituens forward to the physical properties of density, burned shrinkage, water absorption and compressive strength on ceramics. In preparation of ceramic sample, the materials of elay, BA and RHA were mixed five different compositions of A (70,0,30), B (70,10,20), C (70,15,15), D (70,20,10) and E (70,30,0), then formed in a mold sized  π cm2 x 4 cm and further compressed using a hydraulic press tool up to a pressure of 5 MPa. The samples were then heated in a furnace at 600 OC for 2 hours. Measurements of dimensions, mass and compressive forces on each sample were used the threshold, analytical balance and TNM TN20MD type TNM press tool respectively. Based on the compressive strength calculation shows that  good quality sample, which obey  the standard (SNI, 1996) are B, C, D and E. All of them, sample E (70,30,0) is a the best qualityeld ceramic sample because  the highest compressive strength and density, and the lowest burned shrinkage and absorption are 17,77 MPa, 1,60 gr/cm3, 4,10% and 25%, respectively. From the analysis results obtained can be concluded that the addition of excessive rice husk ash (RHA) can reduce the quality of ceramics, otherwise the addition of more bagasse ash (BA) can improve the quality of ceramics.
