IMPROVING STUDENTS’SPEAKING FLUENCY THROUGH CUE CARDS
Abstract
The objective of this research is to find out that the use of cue cards can improve the speaking fluency of the tenth grade students. The problems faced by the students inimproving their speaking fluencywere lack of time to practice, afraid of making mistakes, and felt shame to perform in front of the class. Therefore, the researcher used cue cards as media to help the studentstospeak up smoothly without writing down what they want to express.The researcher used pre-experimental research design;one group pre-test post-test design.Cluster random sampling techniquewas used to select the sample of 28 students.The researcher administered a pre-test at the first meeting and treated the students by using the cue cards for nine meetings. After the treatment, the researcher adminestered a post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 64.24 while the mean score of the post test was 88.59. In measeuring the effect of the cue cards, the result of the pre-test and post-test were calculated statistically by using t-test formula. Based on the result of the data analysis, the tcountedis9.86 while the ttableis1.70.Therefore, the tcounted is greater than the ttable.It means that the use ofcue cardscan improve the speaking fluency of the tenth grade students.
