APPLYING CUE CARDS IN TEACHING ENGLISH TO IMPROVE STUDENTS SPEAKING ABILITY OF GRADE VIII

Abstract


The objective of this research is to find out that the use of Cue Cards has impact in improving speaking skill of Grade VIII students. This research employed quasi experimental research design. It involved two classes. It was selected by using purposive sampling technique. The instrument data collection was a test which was administred twice: pre test and post test. The pre test was used to measure prior knowledge of the students while the post test was used to measure the improvement of the students’ ability after the treatment. In analysing the data, the researcher used 0.05 level of signifincance and 48 degree of freedom (df). The result of the test shows that the mean score of the experimental group in the pre test to the post test increased from 47.1 into 72.1 while on the control group increased from 54.3 to 68.7. The t-test value is 2. The result of the data analysis shows that t-counted value (7.64) is greater than t-table value (2.020), it means the hypothesis is accepted. It could be concluded that the use of cue cards can improve students’ speaking ability of Grade VIII students.
