IMPROVING THE PRONUNCIATION THROUGH LISTENING TO ENGLISH SONGS THE USE OF SCHEMA ACTIVATION STRATEGY TO IMPROVE READING COMPREHENSION OF THE GRADE EIGHTH STUDENTS

Abstract


This research was conducted in order to prove whether the use of schema activation strategy is effective in improving the reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 10Palu. The research applied intact group design of pre-experimental research. The researcher used cluster sampling technique in determining the sample of the research. The data were collected by giving a post-test only after the treatment. The data were analyzed by using statistical analysis in order to know students’ significant achievement difference of post-test. The result of data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the mean score of the post-test in experimental class was 84.08 and in control class was 68.70. By applying two-tailed test at 0.05level of significance with 23 degree of freedom (df) or 24-1=23, the researcher found that t-counted (6.15) was greater than t-table (2.069). In other words, the use of schema activation strategy in improving students’ reading comprehension was effective to the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 10Palu.
