THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING NOTE TAKING STRATEGY TO IMPROVE LISTENING COMPREHENSION OF THE TENTH YEAR STUDENTS

Abstract


This research was intended to find out whether the use of note taking strategy was effective to improve listening comprehension of the tenth year students at SMA Negeri 5 Palu or not. This research employed pre-experimental research and adopted one post-test pre-test design. The sample of the research was the tenth year students at SMA Negeri 5 Palu which was selected through cluster random sampling. The number of the sample was 28. The instrument of data collection was a test which was given as pre-test and post-test. Pre-test was used to measure listening comprehension of the students before the treatment, while post-test was used to measure listening comprehension of the students after the treatment. The different result between pre-test and post-test is expressed as the effect of the treatment. The collected data of the test were analyzed statistically. After analyzing statistically, the writer found that the result of t-counted (9.118) was higher than t-table (1.703). The level of significance counted is set up at 0.05 and the degree of freedom (df) of the table is 28-1=27. It means that the use of note taking strategy is effective to improve listening comprehension of the tenth year students at SMA Negeri 5 Palu.
