THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SUBSTITUTION DRILL TO INCREASE THE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN USING AUXILIARY DO AND DOES

Abstract


This research aims at finding out whether or not substitution drill can increase the ability in using auxiliary do and does at the grade VII students or not. The researcher applied quasi-experimental research design which involved experimental group and control group. The samples were students of class VII B as the experimental group, and class VII C as the control group. They were selected by using a purposive sampling technique. In collecting thee data, the researcher administered pretest and posttest to both groups. The result of the data analysis indicates that there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. The pretest mean score of the experimental group is 40.93 while the control group is 41.48. For the posttest, the mean score of the experimental group is 81.85 and the control group is 56.3. By applying 52 degree freedom (df) and 0.05 level significance, it indicates that the t-counted (6.56) is higher than the t-table (1.676). It means that the hypothesis of this research is accepted. Thus, substitution drill can be applied to increase the students’ ability in using auxiliary do and does.
