USING STORY FACE STRATEGY TO IMPROVE STUDENTS READING COMPREHENSION SKILL

Abstract


The objective of this research is to prove if the use of Story Face Strategy can improve reading
comprehension of the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Parigi. This research used quasiexperimental
research design. Cluster sampling technique was employed to draw the sample of
this research which consisted of 30 students of X IPS B as the experimental group and 34
students of X MIPA E as the control group. The data were collected by using pretest and
posttest. The pretest was administered to measure the students’ reading comprehension before
the treatment while the posttest was administered to measure the improvement of the students’
reading comprehension after the treatment. The mean score of pre-test of the experimental
group was 53.78 while control group 56.47. The mean score of post-test of the experimental
group was 78 while control group was 66.27. In analyzing the data, the researcher used 0.05 as
level of significance and the 62 (30+34-2) degree of freedom (df). The tcounted value was 7.64
and ttable value was 1.67. The tcounted value was greater than ttable value, it means that the
hypothesis was accepted. In other words the use of Story Face Strategy can improve reading
comprehension of the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Parigi.
