THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CUE CARDS IN IMPROVING STUDENTS’ WRITING SKILL

Abstract


The aim of this research is to find out whether or not the use of Cue Cards can improve the
students’ writing skill at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Moutong. The researcher
applied quasi-experimental research design with 41 students as the sample. The samples of this
research were Mipa 1, the experimental group and Mipa 2, the control group which were selected
by using the purposive sampling technique. The instrument of the data collection is a test divided
into pretest and posttest. The data gathered were analyzed statistically. The result of the data
analysis shows that there is a significant difference between the results of pretest and posttest. It is
proven by looking at the mean score of both tests’ result where the mean score of experimental
group is significantly improved from 33.83 to 70.92 meanwhile, control group’s mean score is
improved from 34.98 to 63.91 based on the result of the pretest and the posttest, the researcher
found that the t-counted value is 2.23 researcher found that the value of t-table is 2.02 which shows
that the value of t-counted (2.23) is higher than the value of t-table (2.02). It is concluded that the
research hypothesis is accepted. In other words, the use of Cue Cards can improve the writing skill
at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Moutong.
