IMPROVING STUDENTS’ ABILITY TO USE DEGREES OF COMPARISON THROUGH PICTURES

Abstract


This research aims at proving whether or not the use of Pictures technique can improve the students’ ability to use degrees of comparison at the second year of SMP Negeri 19 Palu. One group pre-experimental research design was used in this research. The population of this research is the second-year students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu and the sample is VIIIB class. It contains 20 students selected by using purposive sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher gave pretest and posttest. The pretest is used to measure the students’ ability to use degrees of comparison before treatment, and the post-test is used to measure the students’ ability after the treatment. The result of the data analysis shows that the mean score of pretest is 45.2. Furthermore, the posttest’s mean score is 75 which indicates that the research hypothesis is accepted by regarding the analysis that t-counted is 9.14 is higher than the t-table is 1.729. The researcher concludes that the use of Pictures is effective to improve the students’ ability to use degrees of comparison at the second year of SMP Negeri 19 Palu
