IMPLEMENTATION OF THEME-BASED TEACHING IN IMPROVING WRITING ABILITY

Abstract


This research aims to prove whether or not the implementation of themebased teachingcan improvethe ability of the eighth grade students at SMPN Model Terpadu Madani Palu in writing descriptive paragraph. The researcher applied a quasi-experimental research design which involved experimental group and control group.The samples are class VIII Chairil Anwar as the experimental group and classVIII Taufik Ismail as the control group. They were selected by using a purposive sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher gave pre-test and post-test for both groups. The result of the data analysis shows that there is a significant difference between pre-test and post-test results. The mean score of the experimental group before the treatment is 34.60, while the control group is 26.70. After the treatment, the mean score of the experimental group is 69.69 and the control group is 38.83. It is also shown that the t-counted (4.54) is greater than the t-table (2.0158) which indicates that the research hypothesis is accepted. Thus, the implementation of theme-based teaching can improve the ability of the students in writing descriptive paragraph.
