DEVELOPING SPEAKING SKILL THROUGH THE APPLICATION OF COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the application of Communicative Language Teaching method is effective in developing speaking skill of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 9 Palu. The researcher applied a pre-experimental research design. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 9 Palu. The sample of this research was taken by applying purposive sampling technique in which class XI IPA 1 consisting of 23 students as the subject of this research. The result of the tests show that the mean score of pre-test is 36.81 and the mean score of the post-test is 66.70. The results of the analysis show that t-counted value is 16.3 and t-table value is 1.717. The result of the data analysis indicates that the t-counted value is higher than t-table value. In conclusion, the application of Communicative Language Teaching method is effective in developing speaking skill of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 9 Palu.
